Prioritizing Food Safety
“GSA is developing needed science-based information and expanding resources that will help farmers and farming companies advance continuous improvement in food safety to provide healthy fruits and vegetables from our farms to your families.”
Food safety is a priority driven by the reality that farmers, their families, and communities consume the same produce they grow. GSA collaborates with the University of California, California Department of Food and Agriculture, U.S. Department of Agriculture, and experts to support the development of science-based, practical solutions that reduce risk and advance continuous improvement in our food safety systems. These efforts aim to influence a risk-based regulatory framework that supports safe food production. GSA also advocates for balanced oversight that supports a farmer’s ability to provide safe, affordable produce for consumers.
Advancing GSA’s Mission.
There are numerous compelling and challenging issues impacting farmers and farming in our region. Because agriculture is such a big part of life on the Central Coast and an economic driver, we understand that what impacts us, impacts the community.
GSA leadership focuses on helping farmers and farming companies address current challenges, identify emerging concerns and find solutions. Many of these challenges are unique to agriculture requiring a novel approach that will allow farmers to continue to farm, protect the livelihoods of employees and enhance the quality of life in our region.
