Balancing Nature and Farming with Risk-Based Pest and Disease Management

Sustainable Crop Protection

GSA collaborates with local farm advisors, universities, and members to monitor trends and develop innovative, science-driven mitigation methods.

Effective pest and disease management is a dynamic challenge for farmers as weather and environmental factors shift pest and disease pressures seasonally, impacting yields, the livelihoods for farmers and farm workers and the supply of affordable produce. GSA collaborates with local farm advisors, universities and farmers to monitor trends and develop innovative, science-driven, as well as practical, mitigation methods. Facing a dual and stringent U.S. and California regulatory system, GSA prioritizes pursuing effective strategies and tools for pest and disease management. This approach focuses on rigorous science to assess efficacy, environmental impact, and public safety while addressing existing and emerging disease and pest control challenges. Our goal is to ensure farmers can sustainably produce food without compromising safety.

Advancing GSA’s Mission.

There are numerous compelling and challenging issues impacting farmers and farming in our region.  Because agriculture is such a big part of life on the Central Coast and an economic driver, we understand that what impacts us, impacts the community.

GSA leadership focuses on helping farmers and farming companies address current challenges, identify emerging concerns and find solutions.  Many of these challenges are unique to agriculture requiring a novel approach that will allow farmers to continue to farm, protect the livelihoods of employees and enhance the quality of life in our region.
