“Growers Are Working With Us”
This quote says it all and the Central Coast agricultural industry continues to take leaps forward in advancing COVID-19 protective measures for farmworkers. Without waiting for federal or state direction, our region coordinated agricultural interests and together with elected leaders created a first-of-its-kind in California (and perhaps the nation) agricultural worker advisory protocols to guide the implementation of protective on-farm actions spanning enhanced training, increased sanitization, social distancing, employee housing and facial coverings. Challenges will persist, but without waiting for trials to mount, agricultural operations on the Central Coast are implementing worker safety and prevention practices.
To learn more about how these protective actions are being employed, from both the employer and a farmworker union point of view, take a look at yesterday’s article in the Monterey County Weekly: “As the Agricultural Season Ramps up in a Pandemic, Worker Safety Protocols Follow”.
